July 4th

Abby is always willing to help!

Note, the Dollar Store is a perfect spot to find patriotic garb suitable for bike decorating.

Note, the Dollar Store is also the perfect spot to purchase glow-in-the-dark-anything-and-everything for your picnic needs!

On July 4th we started the day with a small community parade that Alex's scout pack was involved with.  The boys rode from one elementary school to the other on their decorated bikes.  They also decorated a trailer where some scouts could sit and toss candy to the crowd.  Both Alex and Abby rode their bikes and enjoyed ice cream treats at the end!

It was a very warm, humid day so we swam in the afternoon and then headed towards DC in the evening to watch the fireworks with friends from the Virginia side of the Potomac.  There is ample parking at the Pentagon on July 4 and you can set up blankets in a park alongside George Washington Memorial Parkway.  We had a solid view of the Washington Monument and the fireworks once they started.  As you can see from the pictures, everyone was pretty sweaty by the end of the evening.
