Charlottesville, Virginia

For my birthday, Brad arranged for Jackie and Scott to watch the kids overnight while we explored Charlottesville, VA.  There are numerous vineyards to see and it is really pretty in the fall with all the leaves turning.  We had a wonderful lunch at Barboursville complete with a red wine pairing that included their award-winning Octagon.  After lunch, and a tasting, we ventured down the street to Horton Vineyards.  Their whites are very good and it was such a beautiful day outside.

We stayed at the Oakhurst Inn which is a cute little boutique hotel on the campus of University of Virginia.  There is a free shuttle stop out front that takes visitors and students around campus/downtown Charlottesville, where we went for dinner.  The next morning we were able to explore the historic campus of Jefferson's UVA and it is indeed gorgeous.  On the way home, we stopped in at Early Mountain Vineyard, at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains.  The building, patios, landscape, were all breathtaking!  My cell phone photos hardly do it justice.

Meanwhile the kiddos had a blast with Aunt Jackie and Uncle Scott for the weekend, living the city life!
